Parenting Magazine released its list of top cities in which to raise a family and Louisville takes #10. The list is based on the quality of schools, affordable homes, low crime rates, jobs, and parkland.

Louisville was chosen for its “midwestern city culture” and access to arts, museums and abundance of parks.

Jeffersonville Township Public Library is offering free basic computer classes in October. Classes range from Using Google to Buying on Ebay and are available during the afternoon and evening.

Mayor Gray recently announced that Lexington has secured a federal grant to hire 25 police officers. Awarded from the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program, the grant will cover training and salaries for three years.

An abandoned penguin chick born without feathers at Laohutan Pole Aquarium in Dalian, China recently was taken in and cared for by aquarium staff. With the comfort of fake stuffed penguins, the chick eventually sprouted feathers and was released back into the exhibit.

Although ultimately a misfortunate occurance resulting from the use of candles, a glimmer of good news can be drawn from a house fire in Lyndon last week. The homeowner’s dog nuzzled and barked at the sleeping woman to alert her to the urgent situation. The woman, her daughter and two dogs made it safely out of the home, but sadly a kitty wasn’t as lucky.
